RADIO EQUIPMENT DIRECTIVE (RED)

New cybersecurity requirements for radio devices: this will change from 2025

The Directive 2014/53/EU, known as the Radio Equipment Directive, has so far mainly focused on interoperability and electromagnetic compatibility. With Delegated Regulation 2022/30 and the addition of Article 3.3, new requirements have now also been introduced for the cybersecurity of internet-enabled radio equipment.

From August 1, 2025, all radio equipment offered on the European market must therefore comply with the requirements of the Radio Equipment Act, in particular the cybersecurity requirements of Directive RED Article 3.3 (d-f).

Jan 2022

The European Commission has published the Delegated Regulation 2022/30/EU to enforce the requirements of RED Article 3.3 (d), (e) and (f).

Feb 2022

The European Commission activated RED Articles 3.3 (d), (e) and (f).

As RED Article 3.3 (d-f) will apply from August 1, 2025, companies should already take measures during the development phase to prepare for RED certification for their radio equipment.

  • Adaptation of the development process
  • Product analysis regarding the applicability of cybersecurity requirements in accordance with EN 18031
  • Resource, budget and project planning

This is the only way to ensure that no subsequent changes are required for your products, leading to delays and additional costs.
